Easter meditations – Psalms 113-118

At Easter, Christians dwell on the death and resurrection of Jesus our Saviour. This Easter, rather than read through one of the gospel narratives again, I’d like to get a fresh perspective by meditating on Psalms 113-118. These songs were used at passover time to celebrate the redemption of God’s people from the slavery of Egypt – and it is most likely these psalms that were sung by Jesus and his disciples at the last supper (Matt 28:30). Hearing these psalms on the lips of Jesus just hours before his crucifiction can give us wonderful insights into the greater redemption he achieved, and the theology that led him to the cross.
